Suessical: Connection off the Stage
Seussical stands out in my memory for its pure silliness and the incredible spirit of collaboration it inspired. From the moment we began rehearsals, the team embraced a playful, “let’s try it and see what happens” approach that made every rehearsal feel like an adventure. Even with the show’s minimal transitions and chaotic energy, the experience was seamless because of the trust and creativity we shared.
I carry that heart posture with me in all of my directorial work. It is a firm belief that it's more than the show, it's how loved we make people feel along the way. And then, by some magic, that makes an even more incredible show.
What makes this production especially meaningful is the lasting bond it created. Years later, this team still comes together at least once a year to tackle an escape room and share a meal—moments that remind me that the heart of theatre is as much about connection as it is about performance.
Seussical will always be one of my favorite shows, not just for the joy and laughter it brought to the stage, but for the collaborative spirit and friendship that made it truly unforgettable.
